Update: Police identify 4-year-old victim, driver of dump truck involved in fatal accident

ELIZABETHTON — Police this morning identified the small child killed when a dump truck struck him at the intersection of Broad and Lynn streets Thursday. Police also named the driver.

The boy was identified as 4-year-old Joshua Holston. Capt. Joy Markland said in a press release the boy was walking with another juvenile and an adult, Tiffani Marie Holston. They were attempting to cross Broad Street in the crosswalk at the intersection of Lynn Avenue at 1:19 p.m.

As they were attempting to cross, Joshua ran into the path of the dump truck and was struck as the truck began to turn onto Lynn Avenue, Markland said. The truck was driven by Terry J. Kyte of Bristol.

4-year-old child struck, killed by dump truck

ELIZABETHTON — A 4-year-old child died Thursday afternoon from injuries he received when he was struck by a dump truck at the intersection of Broad and Lynn streets.

Capt. Joy Markland of the Elizabethton Police Department said the child had the only injury in the accident. She said the department would release further details on Friday. She said the department's Special Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was investigating the accident.

Police and other emergency responders were called to the scene around 1:30 p.m.
