JOHNSON CITY — A single-vehicle wreck claimed the life of a Gray man Thursday.
According to a news release from the Johnson City Police Department, James L. Bonsor, 65, 168 Maden Dr., was driving his pickup south on Carroll Creek Road at about 9:10 p.m. when the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree.
An eyewitness told police that Bonsor was driving the speed limit when the crash occurred. After leaving the roadway, Bonsor did not apply the brakes, steer the vehicle or take any type of evasive action. There is a possibility that he suffered a medical problem which rendered him unresponsive and unable to avoid the collision.
Bonsor was not utilizing his restraint system. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The police department’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team is currently conducting the investigation.
