KINGSPORT — Two Ohio men have been charged in connection with an attempted burglary at a Kingsport department store Thursday.
According to a news release from the Kingsport Police Department, at approximately 5:00 p.m. officers responded to Belk Department Store at 2101 Ft. Henry Drive in reference to an attempted burglary.
Belk loss prevention personnel observed two male blacks enter a restricted area which is reserved for sales associates. This area also contains the business offices.
Loss prevention reported the suspects were observed attempting to make entry to a locked office where money is secured in a safe. At this time the suspects were confronted and detained for law enforcement.
Two large screwdrivers were recovered when one of the suspects attempted to conceal the items on a desk.
The men were identified as Dana C. Davis of Cincinnati and Floyd Austell of Cleveland. Both were arrested and transported to the city jail on the charges of attempted burglary, attempted theft over $10,000, and possession of burglary tools. The investigation is ongoing.
