A Bristol, Tenn., man has been charged with statutory rape after allegedly impregnating a 16-year-old.
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office reports Joel Cormier, 24, of 2111 Highway 126, lot 21, was arrested Thursday. An affidavit states he admitted to having a sexual relationship with the girl during a November interview with a detective.
Cormier allegedly met the juvenile via Facebook and knew that she was 16. Police say he continued a relationship despite the girl's mother telling him to stop. Last week, according to the affidavit, the teen learned she was pregnant.
Cormier is currently held in the Sullivan County jail on a $40,000 bond.
