UPDATE: 3:25 p.m.
An 83-year-old Kingsport woman was killed Monday after reportedly stepping in front of a vehicle on Fairview Avenue.
The incident occurred shortly before noon Monday at a Kingsport Area Transit System bus stop. Kingsport Police Officer Dale Farmer said Leatrice Jeanette Ormond, of 1000 Stonegate Road, had just exited a KATS bus and was attempting to cross the street to get to Walgreens.
As the bus pulled away, according to witness statements to police, the woman stepped directly into the path of a 2006 Ford F-350 pickup. She was struck and knocked to the street.
Emergency personnel performed CPR on the woman at the scene before she was transported to Hoslton Valley Medical Center, where she later died. Police say an investigation is continuing but no charges are expected to be placed in the incident.
