GATE CITY — A Gate City man charged with engaging in sexual misconduct with a minor was one of 32 people indicted on over 70 charges Monday afternoon by a Scott County Grand Jury.
According to the Scott County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Rosendo Huertado Rodriguez, 49, of Gate City, was indicted on a single count committing a sex act with a child as a result of an incident that took place earlier this year.
Authorities said Rodriguez was at a Gate City grocery store when he entered the women’s restroom and asked a 14-year-old female to commit a sex act with him.
Scott County Commonwealth’s Attorney Marcus McClung said he could not release further details on the allegations due to the nature of the case against Rodriguez.
“That’s all I can tell you right now, because it was a closed hearing,” McClung said.
McClung said the remaining indictments covered a variety of counts ranging from drug distribution and gun charges to DUI offenses and breaking and entering.
Also indicted by the grand jury was Brett Wayne Freeman, 27, of Gray, Tenn., for his alleged role in a Feb. 2012 domestic incident.
Freeman was charged with breaking and entering with a deadly weapon, abduction, shooting in a dwelling and the use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
Freeman allegedly broke into his estranged wife’s home in the Daniel Boone section of the county and held her against her will at gun point for several hours.
Authorities said Freeman allegedly fired his weapon inside the residence during the incident.
Timothy Wayne Sturgill, 49, of Gate City was also indicted on four gun-related felonies in connection with a Sept. 2012 incident that allegedly took place at his Gatewood Court apartment.
Sturgill faces a single count each of brandishing a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school and discharging a firearm in a home and two counts of intimidating with a firearm.
Sturgill was arrested by Gate City Police for allegedly firing a weapon from the balcony of his apartment towards the football field at Gate City High School. Bullet holes were also allegedly found inside his apartment.
During the incident, authorities said Sturgill held two men inside his apartment against his will.
David Smith, 31, of Church Hill was indicted on charges of felony alluding and attempted malicious wounding of a police officer.
Authorities said Smith ran from law enforcement during a traffic stop, and while fleeing, attempted to swerve and strike a Scott County Sheriff’s Office deputy’s vehicle.
