Millions of dollars in potential marijuana profits have been nipped in the bud in a remote section of Scott County following a one-week investigation.
Scott County Sheriff John Puckett said Thursday that the department’s Criminal Investigation Unit had received a tip on June 6 concerning a cannabis-growing operation in a remote section of the Yuma community.
The plants, 1,773 of them ranging in size from 1 to 4 feet, were in early development and had not reached full maturation.
Officers estimate that if the plants were processed and sold by the grower, the crop would have reaped an estimated $5.3 million in street value.
Puckett said that three suspects had been identified based upon the electronic surveillance that was conducted on the property in question earlier in the month.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office received assistance in the operation from the Southwest Virginia Drug Task Force.
