Drunken man arrested after 'walking in and out' of I-81 traffic

June 8

Police were alerted to a man "walking in and out of traffic" on Interstate 81. The suspect was located near mile marker 68, walking south at the side of northbound lanes. The responding officer reports the man admitted to drinking three beers shortly beforehand, then advised police he was, "going to keep walking on interstate." He was arrested for public intoxication. During transport to the jail he allegedly began "banging his head" against the squad car's window — threatening to report the officer had assaulted him.

June 11

A caller from Fedderson Street reported a car was traveling "entirely too fast" past his house, where there are small children in the area. He added that police have been contacted about this issue twice before but did nothing — and if that happened again he himself would, "take care of the problem."

June 12

During a domestic dispute on Devault Bridge Road a woman was yelling at her husband, while the man's children allegedly threw rocks at him.

June 7

At 8 a.m. officers responded to the corner of Myrtle Street and Wateree Street, where a vehicle had ran off the road and up an embankment. When police arrived they found the vehicle's driver being "combative" with emergency personnel, and had to be physically removed from his PT Cruiser. He was arrested and charged with DUI.

June 10

A caller reported a man sitting in a pickup at Walmart was "drinking from a glass bottle" and "being obnoxious."

June 11

A man was arrested after attempting to walk out of the West Stone Drive Walmart with "several" items "stuffed" into his pants: four LED headlights, two boxes of cutlery, two pairs of socks and a pair of sunglasses.

Hawkins County Sheriff's Office

June 8

A Whitesburg man reported a woman had driven a vehicle through his yard and destroyed the lawn, while her son had threatened to "whip his butt." He said the altercations were due to an eviction notice served on the suspects.

June 9

A woman — trying to bail a friend out of the Hawkins County jail — allegedly collided with an officer while attempting to walk, then stepped on the deputy's feet. She admitted to taking prescribed medication less than two hours earlier, was given field sobriety tests and performed poorly. She was arrested for public intoxication.

June 13

An officer observed "dresser drawers falling out of the bed" of a truck traveling Highway 66. A stop was conducted, learning the driver's license was revoked for DUI. He was arrested. The truck also contained a passenger, who had "several" empty Natty Light cans at his feet. The man was told to stay in the truck until someone could pick him up, but disregarded police commands and "ran up into the woods." He was soon found hiding in bushes, arrested for public intoxication.
