Woman allegedly crashes truck into grave monument business, flees the scene

ROGERSVILLE — A Hawkins County woman was charged with failure to report an accident, failure to exercise due care, and possession of an open alcohol container early Tuesday morning after allegedly crashing into the Reece Monument Building at 107 Carters Valley Loop just off of Highway 11-W east of Rogersville.

According to an HCSO report, around 11:25 p.m. Monday Rhonda Gail Dorton, 45, 303 Ross Circle, Rogersville, failed to negotiate a curve, slid off the roadway and struck the building with a 1991 Chevy Sonoma.

She then allegedly fled the area before deputies arrived, but was located and returned to the scene. An empty beer bottle was allegedly found in her vehicle. She is set for arraignment Oct. 15.
