GREENEVILLE — State officials have decertified the Greene County jail citing overcrowded conditions as the main reason behind the action.
Tennessee Corrections Institute spokesman Christopher Garrett told The Greenville Sun (http://bit.ly/R6Krom ) that the board met Wednesday and took the action. He said it stems from a failed inspection in April. Garrett said the jail was given an opportunity to present a plan to solve overcrowding issues, but no plan was submitted.
Sheriff Steve Burns says local officials could still adopt a plan in order to get the jail recertified.
