BLOUNTVILLE — Sullivan County District Attorney Barry Staubus and members of his staff renewed their oaths of office during a brief ceremony Friday morning in the Sullivan County Justice Center in Blountville.
Staubus was sworn in by Sullivan County Circuit Judge Jerry Beck. Sullivan County Criminal Court Judge Robert Montgomery administered the oath to the assistant district attorneys and private investigators.
"Since my appointment, it's been a very exciting and interesting year -- just taking on the responsibilities of the district attorney, but also still remaining in court and trials," Staubus said after the ceremony.
He also cited his involvement in the "campaign against synthetic drugs" among the highlights of the past year.
Staubus said he has also found it "enjoyable" to watch the transformation of some "new, young attorneys" he hired to fill various vacancies.
"To see them ... going from young attorneys to prosecutors," he said.
Prior to the August election, Gov. Bill Haslam had personally sworn in Staubus, whom he had appointed to replace Greeley Wells following his retirement, in August 2011.
