ROAN MOUNTAIN — Family members tried to rescue a bedridden woman from a burning house this morning, but flames and smoke were too intense, and the woman died in the fire, authorities reported.
Jackie Malone Hampton, 58, was killed in the fire at 133 Roan St.
Firefighters and emergency workers were called to the fire around 10:30 this morning with reports that someone remained trapped in the house.
