ROGERSVILLE -- Hawkins County voters will have a busy Nov. 6 election with contested races in four municipalities as well as two County Commission seats and five liquor referendums.

The deadline for municipal election candidates to qualify passed Thursday at noon.

In Mount Carmel, there are three candidates for mayor -- incumbent Gary Lawson, longtime Alderman Eugene Christian, and former county commissioner and local Planning Commission Chairman Larry Frost.

There are six candidates for three contested alderman seats in Mount Carmel -- incumbent Vice Mayor Carl Wolfe, former Aldermen Paul Hale and Wanda Worley-Davidson, and newcomers Richard Bewley, Pete Horton and Denise Russell Livesay.

There are four candidates for three contested Surgoinsville alderman seats -- incumbents Joe McLain and Marc Borghetti and newcomers Alex Dykes and Landon Pruitt.

There are three candidates for two contested seats on the Rogersville Board of Education -- incumbent Chairman Reed Matney, incumbent member Todd Biggs and newcomer Mahima Kundu.

There are two candidates running for Bulls Gap mayor -- Daniel Parrott and Michael B. Solomon. The winner will replace Mayor Bill Grubb, who isn't seeking re-election.

There are also five candidates for the four contested Bulls Gap alderman seats -- Martha Snelson, Susan Williams, Betsy Shipley, Charles Roark and Jimmy Sexton.

There will also be two Hawkins County Commission District 2 seats on the Nov. 6 ballot. Although the deadline to be placed on the ballot for a District 2 seat isn't until Sept. 12, there are already four candidates qualified -- former Commissioner Fred "Daris" Horne, Fred Castle, Jeret Ratliff and Jeff Barrett.

Four of Hawkins County's five liquor referendums have also been certified to be placed on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Although the Election Office has received the overall county liquor by the drink referendum petition, election staff hadn't completed checking all the signatures as of Thursday.

Liquor by the drink petitions for Mount Carmel, Church Hill and Rogersville, as well as a package store referendum for Rogersville, have been checked and approved.

The deadline for referendum petitions isn't until next month.
