GATE CITY -- A Gate City man was arrested earlier this week after he was allegedly caught "blue handed" leaving the scene of a home he broke into to steal copper wiring.
Trevor Wayne Hardy, no age given, was arrested by officers with the Gate City Police Department and Scott County Sheriff's Office on charges of felony burglary and possession of burglary tools. Hardy was also charged with second offense petit larceny, vandalism and underage consumption.
According to law enforcement accounts, the arresting officers were in the West Jackson Street area of Gate City when they noticed a man who was later identified as Hardy.
Authorities said they observed Hardy wearing "blue surgical-type gloves" while he was exiting the downstairs area of a home located at 1147 W. Jackson St.
Hardy was also allegedly in possession of a flashlight and a pair of pliers.
After stopping Hardy, the officers searched the premises and noticed that a window on one of the entrance doors to the residence had been broken. A door to the lower level of the home was also found standing open.
Following his arrest, Hardy allegedly told the officers that he had entered the residence to steal copper wire.
Hardy is scheduled to appear in Scott County General District Court on Aug. 28 for arraignment.
Hardy also faces two additional charges of trespassing and a single count of vandalism from an unrelated arrest in March.
