KINGSPORT — Folks with comments or questions about the proposed merger of Sullivan North and Sullivan South high schools have another chance to attend a community meeting.

Monday night’s community meeting on the proposed merger of the schools is set to start at 7 p.m. in the North gymnasium.

It will be streamed live by the Kingsport Times-News from a link at www.timesnews.net, the same process used on a Sullivan County Board of Education work session that drew about 500 to Northeast State Community College on March 14. A parent-organized event drew about 60 to the Colonial Heights Middle School gym last Wednesday. Three school board members and five county commissioners attended that meeting.

The public will be able to make statements and ask questions Monday night. Some BOE members and commissioners also are expected to attend.

A flyer promoting the event and North Principal Richard Carroll said the event is a joint effort of county commissioners and the parent teacher associations in the North zone, the latter of which originally set up the meeting at Ketron.

Carroll said the event was moved to North because of the expected crowd.

The proposal on the table from Director of Schools Jubal Yennie is to merge the schools in the fall of 2014, with one building becoming a high school and the other a middle school for both the South and North zones.

The Feb. 28 unveiling of three rezoning scenarios drew about 300 to Central High School, and the regular BOE meeting at Central’s little theater drew about the same number March 4.
