Kingsport Police Department
Feb. 15
A stop was conducted on a driver who failed to signal while turning into a convenience store on Lynn Garden Drive. A police report says the driver had an "obvious" odor of alcohol, performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested. The man allegedly became belligerent and combative with the officer, cursing loudly and drawing the attention of customers. When placed in the back of the squad car he "began to beat his head on the window" — evoking a burst of pepper spray to subdue him. Guns were also located in the suspect's vehicle, bringing about an additional charge of possession of firearms while under the influence.
Feb. 16
Central dispatch was advised of "several people" fighting at a residence on McCoy Street, where EMS had previously responded due to someone putting their hand "through a glass door."
Feb. 17
Police met three men at a convenience store after their "friend" attempted to attack them at a residence on Bays View Road. The suspect — who had been drinking vodka "most of the evening" — allegedly jumped off a porch with a knife in each hand, chasing two of the men into a vehicle. Police responded to the home, located one of the knives and arrested the suspect for aggravated assault.
A female reported someone was inside her apartment on John B. Dennis Highway. Three minutes later a dispatcher disregarded the call; the intruder had been identified as a roommate.
Officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the emergency room of Indian Path Medical Center after the staff allegedly caught a man stealing needles. Police also located a pipe and synthetic marijuana joint in his possession. He was arrested.
A manager of Maurice's on East Stone Drive advised a pair of females were "extremely intoxicated" in the changing rooms. A responding officer reports waiting an "extended period of time" for the women to exit the rooms, at which time they exhibited poor balance and slurred speech. Both were arrested for public intoxication, with one suspect admitting to taking multiple narcotic medications throughout the day.
Hawkins County Sheriff's Office
Feb. 13
A Thorn Hill man reported his wife had cut his thumb with a knife during an argument, then attempted to steal his boat from the front yard, but it was too muddy. A deputy observed large ruts in the lawn that could possibly support the boat story. However, an incident report notes the wound to the man's thumb was old — it was already scabbed over — and didn't appear to be caused by a knife. The woman had left prior to police arrival. No action was taken.
Feb. 14
Police responded to a disturbance between father and son on River Road, learning it revolved around the son's refusal to take a shower after working graveyard shift. The argument allegedly escalated into a shoving match between the men, with the youngest agreeing to leave the residence.
A Church Hill woman reported receiving 12 threatening texts from her sister-in-law in less than two hours. The day before, her husband had received approximately 30 texts from his sister, which also threatened bodily harm. The couple could not advise police as to why the suspect was sending the messages, saying only that it was an "ongoing thing."
Feb. 15
A Rogersville man reported his debit card was fraudulently used online to purchase a $400 juicer from Macy's.
Feb. 16
A Bulls Gap man told police that a male and female arrived at his residence, with him telling them to leave. But when the unwanted male allegedly challenged the resident — telling him to "bring it on" — a fight ensued. As the two men tussled, according to the alleged victim, the female hit him twice in the head with a rock. The suspects then fled the scene.
Sullivan County Sheriff's Office
Feb. 14
A caller wished to report a man "hanging around" a county church and "begging people for money."
A Highway 394 resident reported hearing two men talking outside of her home, then climbing on top of her trailer. Police responded but no one was located.
Feb. 15
A churn and a cane were stolen from the front porch of a home on Whitehaven Drive.
A Lakeridge Street resident advised dispatch that someone had pulled a vehicle into her driveway, even though "No Trespassing" signs are posted throughout the yard.
Feb. 16
Someone called 911 from a residence on Muddy Creek Road, wishing to ask "some medical questions." An ambulance was ultimately dispatched to the location after a dispatcher learned a juvenile was highly intoxicated and "throwing up everywhere."
A deputy responded to a home on Old Stage Trail, where the residents reported a woman refused to leave. As police spoke to the woman, a hospice worker arrived to care for one of the residents, with the suspect allegedly screaming at the caregiver and threatening to "cut her throat." After ignoring multiple police commands to calm down, the suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct.
A Deck Valley Road man reported a female was "destroying" his house, throwing an ashtray through his TV.
Feb. 17
Dispatch was advised of a suspicious juvenile riding a bicycle on Highway 126 "shaking his fist at traffic." An officer checked the area but the boy wasn't located.
A bird bath was reported stolen from a residence on Allison Road.
