One boy is dead and another in critical condition after an apparent electrocution at Cherokee Lake, according to Grainger County officials.
Dispatchers there received two separate calls at about 2:15 this afternoon reporting two children were unconscious after jumping into the lake near the German Creek Marina and appeared to have been electrocuted, said Randy Holt, executive director of Grainger County Emergency 911.
First reports had both boys dead, but Grainger County sheriff Scott Layel said emergency personnel were able to get a pulse on one boy, who was taken to a Knoxville hospital - either University of Tennessee Medical Center or East Tennessee Children's Hospital. The boys were believed to be between the ages of 8 and 10 and were not believed to be related, Layel said.
