MOORESBURG — A Mooresburg man told the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Sunday he has been the victim of repeated thefts of gasoline, chickens and eggs from his property since July.
James Brown of Haygood Circle told HCSO Deputy Kenny Lunsford Jr. that in July he found two trucks to be missing a total of 15 gallons of gasoline, followed by the theft of 25 gallons in September and 21 gallons in December. Brown also stated that two of his roosters valued at $25 each are missing, and that someone has been stealing eggs out of his hen house every day.
“His chickens were laying 6-14 eggs per day, and nowhe finds zero to one egg per day,” Lunsford stated in his report. “Mr. Brown found a Marlboro cigarette butt on the ground at his hen house, and he lives alone and doesn’t smoke.”
Lunsford said Brown also found tire tracks in his yard that don’t match any of his vehicles. Lunsford added, “I made Mr. Brown aware of aftermarket locking gas caps that he could purchase to protecthis vehicle. I also advised him to place a lock on his henhouse to protect his eggs.”
