Dec. 17
Police took a man into custody on Broad Street on outstanding warrants for failure to report. He was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car, with another officer arriving to transport the man to jail. When the squad car door was opened, the man reportedly jumped out and ran, heading westbound onto West Wanola. As officers gave chase the suspect stumbled and fell in a driveway, where he allegedly ignored police commands and attempted to get back up. He was Tasered, subdued and additionally charged with escape and evading arrest.
Sullivan County Sheriff's Office
Dec. 18
An Allison Road resident reported a digital camera as stolen from her home by her brother — adding that he "bragged" about the theft. When interviewed the man said he hasn't even spoken to the woman in weeks, due to her drug problems and "telling lies." Police returned to the stepsister's residence, where she claimed to have now found the camera behind her house. She later admitted to filing a false report, offering no explanation for fabricating the story, and was arrested.
Hawkins County Sheriff's Office
Dec. 18
Police were dispatched to Stanley Valley Road on a report of a man being shot. The victim stated that as he stood outside looking at a vehicle parked in front of his home, he felt a pain in his leg and the vehicle drove away. Police report finding a "scratch on the top of his calf," suspected to be caused by a shot from a pellet gun.
Dec. 19
A Rogersville woman reported coming home from church and sitting down on the couch to watch TV. When her dogs started "acting up" she went to the apparent cause of their alarm, finding a bedroom wall and bed were on fire. Striggersville and Persia Fire Departments responded to extinguish the flames, with an electrical outlet identified as the probable cause.
