Love triangle leads to Sullivan County crash, aggravated assault charge

Dec. 10

A county resident called police due to their daughter-in-law, who lives in a back bedroom of the home, threatening to shoot anyone who entered her abode. The altercation reportedly began over a dinner with out-of-town family members, which the daughter-in-law was expected to attend but refused.

Dec. 11

At approximately 9:30 p.m. deputies responded to crash on Pickens Bridge Road. Investigation revealed the driver of a GMC had stopped in the middle of the roadway and put his vehicle in reverse, ramming a Silverado that was traveling behind him. Police learned the men agreed to meet at the location following a dispute over a woman, with whom they each have been romantically involved. The GMC driver allegedly admitted to purposely causing the collision, was arrested for aggravated assault and reckless driving.

Dec. 12

Loss prevention at Walmart on Fort Henry Drive stopped a suspected shoplifter and called police. Approximately $580 in merchandise was recovered from the woman — including diapers, tools and a coffee maker. She was arrested for felony theft.

Dec. 13

Shortly before 1 p.m. a motorist advised dispatch of teenage skateboarders "riding down the middle" of Lynn Garden Drive. The boys also reportedly had earbuds in their ears.

Hawkins County Sheriff's Office

Dec. 12

A deputy reported a Buick turning onto Justice Center Drive failed to stop, nearly causing a collision with their patrol car. The Buick then allegedly entered Highway 11W traffic without yielding to oncoming vehicles, narrowly avoiding another wreck. When a stop was conducted the motorist blamed the incidents on malfunctioning brakes. He was arrested after a check of his license reveled it had been suspended.
