WISE — Despite snowfall from Hurricane Sandy, trick or treating will go on Wednesday night in a number of Southwest Virginia towns.
Wise Police Chief Tony Bates said the town’s philosophy regarding Halloween is to observe trick or treating on the day of the holiday, regardless of weather.
“We always try to have it every year on Halloween regardless of the weather because people try to do it anyway,” Bates said. “We can’t get the word out (fast enough) about any kind of postponement, so we’re just sticking with Halloween on Halloween.”
Big Stone Gap is also good to go for trick or treat from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday night as previously scheduled.
Norton City Manager Fred Ramey confirmed the city will go ahead with Halloween observances from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night and advised he had received an e-mail from Appalachia Town Manager Fred Luntsford Jr. that Appalachia is going with Wednesday night as well.
Coeburn Town Manager Loretta Mays said trick or treating would be postponed until Saturday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. due to the weather.
