MANVILLE — A Scott County man was arrested last week on domestic violence, abduction and weapons charges after he allegedly fired a gun while holding his wife against her will.

Jerry Allen Akers, 957 Keyhole Road, Fort Blackmore, was charged with simple assault against a family member, abduction, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, maliciously discharging a firearm, and two counts of a convicted felon possessing or transporting a firearm after deputies with the Scott County Sheriff’s Department conducted a search of his home.

Scott County Sheriff John Puckett said the simple assault charge against Akers is considered a felony since it is the third time he has been charged with the offense.

Puckett said officers arrested Akers after receiving information that he held his wife against her will in their home and at one point fired a weapon into the ceiling over her head.

Upon arriving at the residence to execute a search warrant, Puckett said officers found evidence that matched the description of events they had received.

“When you walked into the house you could see the bullet hole in the ceiling, and you could see the sky light shining through it,” Puckett said.

While searching the residence, Puckett said officers found the weapon allegedly used by Akers hidden in the yard at the edge of a nearby wooded area.

Puckett said officers received information during the course of the investigation that led them to obtain a warrant to search the residence of Akers’ son.

While searching that residence, officers reportedly found a small amount of marijuana, prescription pills and moonshine, which resulted in misdemeanor charges being taken out.

Akers is currently being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield. He is scheduled to appear in Scott County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Oct. 24 for all charges except those involving weapons. Those charges will be prosecuted in Scott County General District Court, authorities said.

Prior to his most recent arrest, Akers was charged Sept. 6 with trespassing, vandalism and two counts of assault.
