PENNINGTON GAP — A Lee County man was arrested Thursday on a murder charge for allegedly stabbing his son-in-law to death during an argument over a repossessed vehicle.
Sammy McMahan, 46, 744 Seminary Church Road, was arrested at his home by Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies and charged with a single count of first-degree murder in the killing of Matthew Neal Stallard, 25.
Authorities said Stallard’s wounds were apparently inflicted by a hunting knife.
According to Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons, deputies responded after receiving a report of a possible stabbing at a residence in the Seminary section of the county.
McMahan told officers when they arrived that he and Stallard had been arguing over a repossessed vehicle and other domestic matters when they became involved in an altercation.
During the fight, McMahan allegedly stabbed Stallard with the knife.
Stallard was sent to Lee Regional Medical Center for treatment before being flown to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, where he was later pronounced dead.
McMahan was interviewed by Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigators before being taken into custody.
McMahan is currently being held without bond in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield.
