ROGERSVILLE — A Surgoinsville woman and her boyfriend were indicted by a Hawkins County grand jury Monday in connection with exposing a child to meth manufacturing in a camper earlier this year.
Christy Lee Kilgore, 38, 313 Bray Road, Surgoinsville, was indicted on one count of attempted aggravated child neglect, a Class B felony with a punishment range of eight to 12 years.
The charge relates to Kilgore's Jan. 6 arrest for allegedly having her 7-year-old daughter spend the night in a camper where meth was being manufactured.
Also indicted Monday was Kilgore's boyfriend at the time of her arrest, Tracey Dewayne Gibson, 42, 465 Greenland Lane, Church Hill, on charges including initiating the process to manufacture meth, promotion of meth manufacturing, maintaining a dwelling where controlled substances are sold or used, possession of synthetic cannabinoids, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hawkins County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to a Rogersville physician's office on Jan. 6 after a family member of the 7-year-old girl brought her to have respiratory problems treated. The child's breathing problem had allegedly been caused by exposure to an active meth lab.
HCSO Narcotics Unit detectives spoke to the girl, who described in detail what detectives believe to be a complete or partial meth lab in a camper.
Detectives were able to determine that the camper belongs to Gibson in the Greenland Campground in Church Hill.
Detectives went to the camper and found Gibson was gone but also allegedly observed numerous meth lab ingredients and components in plain view from outside.
Deputies subsequently executed a search warrant on the camper and allegedly discovered more evidence of a meth lab inside, as well as meth residue and syringes.
Another detective went to speak with Kilgore, who allegedly admitted that she'd stayed with Gibson the three nights prior to Jan. 6, and her daughter had stayed there overnight the first night.
According to the HCSO, Kilgore stated that on the night her 7-year-old daughter stayed all night, fumes of a meth lab were present at the Gibson residence. Kilgore also allegedly told the HCSO she had allowed her 7-year-old daughter to sleep on a couch while she and other individuals had snorted pills and meth inside the camper.
Gibson was arrested at his camper on Jan. 7.
Both have been released on bond.
