Aug. 27
A resident of Kendrick Creek Road told dispatch that someone has broken into her home, and are possibly "trapped" in the laundry room. Police found the call to be unfounded.
Aug. 28
An employee of a senior care facility reported an 87-year-old resident with Alzheimers had left with family members, who failed to sign her out, and she is possibly missing. Two minutes later dispatch was advised the family had returned with the woman.
Aug. 29
Shortly before 3 a.m. police responded to Myrtle Street, where a man was holding a knife to his neck and threatening to commit suicide. The agitated man walked to the area of Forest and Cross Street, knife still to his throat, shouting profanities and ordering police to back away. An officer fired a single shot from a bean bag shotgun, striking the man in the thigh. He dropped the knife, fell to the ground and was brought into custody. He was then transported to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
Sullivan County Sheriff's Office
Aug. 27
A Big Hollow Road resident reported "something" was in her backyard, "moaning like it's in pain." She couldn't advise if it was human or animal, while a responding officer found neither.
Aug. 28
A county woman told dispatch that her husband "is a gambler" and she "wants him gone."
Aug. 29
Police were advised of a white van which stopped on Hood Road and let out a man. When the caller approached the man and asked what he was doing, he claimed to be selling vacuums. This further arose suspicion, as he, "only had a spray bottle in his hands." A few minutes later the van returned, picked the suspect up and drove away.
Hawkins County Sheriff's Office
Aug. 27
Police responded to a vehicle fire on Elbow City Road, locating a 1995 Buick Park Avenue engulfed in flames. The owner stated the car had not ran in a while and a friend was trying to repair it. When started a fire sparked near the fuel line.
