Authorities believe the body recovered Saturday morning in Cherokee Lake could be that of a missing Hawkins County man last seen three days ago at a Grainger County campground.

Hamblen County Sheriff Esco Jarnagin said a boater on the lake found the body floating near an island and alerted the sheriff’s office.

“The island is in the jurisdiction of Hamblen and he was camping at Gilmore Campsite boat launch in Grainger,” Jarnagin said. “My detective went and talked to the people at the campsite and they said the camper door was left open and no one had seen this person in question for three days, so we think that is who that was.”
