KINGSPORT — In the next 30 days, the Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen wants to see the marketing plan for the aquatic center project, given its expected significance to the community and with the facility scheduled to be complete in less than nine months.
This sentiment came out of a discussion on the monthly report on the aquatic center during a BMA work session Monday afternoon. Following an update on the project by Frank Brewer, the city’s main project manager on the aquatic center, Alderman John Clark asked what was being done to market the aquatic center. “We need to do a good job selling the investment for the city,” Clark said.
Chris McCartt, assistant to the city manager, said the city is working with the Kingsport Convention and Visitors Bureau on a theme and logo for the aquatic center and a name for the outdoor water park and will be establishing a Web site for the facility.
McCartt added the city has purchased and is holding four or five Web site names, and once a Web site is established, the city plans on posting videos and aerial photographs of the aquatic center.
Mayor Dennis Phillips charged city staff with returning by the next BMA work session with an update on the marketing plan for the aquatic center.
