KINGSPORT — Kingsport City Schools is coming to public access television on the Charter Communications cable system later this month.
And “Lunch With Lyle” could give some folks in-person interaction with Superintendent Lyle Ailshie.
The system isn’t going to televise its school board meetings, although spokesman Andy True said the system is looking at streaming meetings on its Web page. And “Lunch With Lyle” could be a periodic event, depending on what happens with the school system’s longstanding Brown Bag Lunch series.
The system is looking to have an hour of cable TV programming a day, likely repeated at least once, that would be based on video shot at all schools and “rendered” by the broadcast classes at Dobyns-Bennett High School.
True, Race to the Top coordinator and head of the Communications Department at KCS, said that Jeff Hall, station manager for WCSK radio at D-B, and Joe McMakin, the career technical education teacher over the video editing and production classes at D-B, will work on the programming.
True and Hall at a recent Board of Education work session said it is to include some short PowerPoint-type presentations, as an example something on the Common Core, as well as a video demonstration of professional development or learning opportunities teachers get.
“Talking heads,” including a monologue from Ailshie, a “From the Superintendent’s Desk” about his thoughts, philosophies and vision for the system, also are to be part of the programming, as is musical and fine arts programming, such as concert and singing performances at the schools.
