Kingsport Police Department
April 30
While responding to a verbal dispute on Virgil Avenue, police were alerted that an individual present had an active warrant out of Georgia. While walking towards the residence the suspect allegedly bolted out a back door, jumped a fence and ran through a field. Police report that following several orders to stop, and an approximately 100 yard foot chase, the man, "realized the futility of running." After giving up he was asked why he fled, soliciting the response, "Because every time the law comes, I go to jail." He was arrested and held for extradition to Georgia.
Dispatch was advised that a tractor trailer had "tore up the drive thru" at a John B Dennis restaurant, then fled the area.
May 1
A motorist on West Carters Valley Road was side-swiped by a SUV, which then exited the roadway, struck a mailbox and continued on. Scott County deputies soon located the SUV at a residence on East Carter's Valley, just over the state line. The suspected driver agreed to walk from her residence into Tennessee, where she was interviewed by an investigating KPD officer. She was determined to be under the influence and arrested.
A 911 caller claimed that another man had threatened him with a rake, then took off running towards the Highlands area.
Hawkins County Sheriff's Office
April 30
A deputy was dispatched to an assault in Bulls Gap, where a 31-year-old man claimed his mother, 49, had, "hit him in the head with a drinking glass." He said she also injured his ankle "with a chair" and attempted to "put a cigarette out" in his eye. Police then visited the mother's residence, where she stated her son had started an argument over money. She claimed that during the incident he had grabbed her wrist, then injured himself by, "tripping over a chair." A primary aggressor could not be determined, no charges were filed.
Police took a stalking report from a Mooresburg woman. She stated that another female had made several threats through letters, with some envelopes including photos of her, "deceased child." The woman was advised of how to obtain an order of protection.
An Oak Grove Road resident reported vandalism, with police observing a tree branch through the windshield of his vehicle.
A Bulls Gap woman claimed her sister, 22, had called and began cursing. The sister was angry over the activation of Facebook account, according to the police report, and threatened to find her sister "out somewhere."
A Rogersville woman reported her neighbor allows their dogs to run at large, with the animals chasing and killing her cat. Police located no loose dogs, but the alleged owner claimed to have, "taken care of the problem." The victim was advised of how to pursue the matter in civil court.
May 1
A resident of Spruce Pine Road said he returned home from work to find his live-in-girlfriend had stolen several of his possessions: cell phone, horseshoe shaped wind chime, Rebel Flag blanket.
Police were alerted to an incident that occurred the previous evening at Cherokee High School. During tryouts for the color guard an employee was approached by an adult female, who allegedly "demanded" access to a restroom. School personnel granted her access, but later learned from witnesses that she left with, "a bag full of toilet paper." A check of the restroom revealed approximately 50 rolls had been stolen, valued at $37.50. A 45-year-old Bulls Gap woman was identified to police as the suspect, with her later located and interviewed. She was charged with theft under $500.
Sullivan County Sheriff's Office
April 29
A 911 caller from Buncombe Road said people were outside fighting, with one beating the other with a gas can. About a minute later they said all appeared to be OK — those involved are now, "hugging each other and shaking each others' hands."
Dispatch was advised of a verbal dispute in a residential area off Reedy Creek Road, where people were, "arguing over a parking spot."
A Piney Flats woman called police on people playing their music too loudly. She said they also walked by her home, "barking at her dogs."
A Blountville resident reported reckless driving in front of their home, wanting to show police the skid marks vehicles leave in the roadway.
In a Kingsport subdivision three juveniles were reportedly throwing rocks at a home still under construction.
Police responded to Painter Creek Road after a report of four explosions coming from South Holston Lake, but nothing was located.
April 30
A dispute between neighbors in Piney Flats escalated to one spraying the other's lawn with chemicals, allegedly killing the grass.
Police were alerted to reckless driving off Bristol Caverns Highway, where someone was allegedly, "racing a golf cart up and down the street."
May 1
A disturbance was reported at a Blountville restaurant on Highway 394, involving the owner and an employee.
An I-81 motorist called 911 after being pulled over by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. He said he wasn't getting out of the car because the Trooper wasn't "treating" him right, and he had called dispatch to, "exercise his rights." He then backtracked, slightly, by saying he just doesn't like the police, and is therefore making comments he really doesn't mean.
A Stone Drive motorist reported harassment from another driver. She said she accidentally cut him off in traffic, and now he's yelling and threatening to report her as DUI.
An 11E motorist — with Hello Kitty sticker on her car — was allegedly driving recklessly and yelling obscenities.
