BIG STONE GAP -- Rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors are invited to participate in the 2013 Mountain Empire Community College Governor's School on the college campus from June 10-28.

The MECC Governor's School is open to public and home school students in Lee, Wise, Scott and Dickenson counties and the City of Norton who have a 3.0 grade point average or higher.

The three week program features a variety of hands on activities in one of several subject areas chosen by students. Field and lab work, field trips to area colleges, other tours and classroom time with MECC faculty will provide eight, tuition free college credit hours upon successful completion of the school.

The six academic areas to be offered include drama theory and performance, forensics for the biology lab, entrepreneurship and regional tourism, social networking user interface creation, art illustration and animation, and engineering design.

Applications will be accepted through May 24. Limited space is available and students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. For more information or to download an application go to www.mecc.edu/govschool or call John Bledsoe, Governor's School coordinator, at 276-523-2400 ext. 307.
