CHURCH HILL — A Church Hill woman was arraigned Friday on one count of aggravated domestic violence for allegedly stabbing her son-in-law last week with a fork.
Church Hill Police Department Officer Ken Luster was dispatched Thursday night to the apartments at 110 Pridemore St. on a complaint of an assault in progress.
Upon his arrival, Luster reportedly observed people standing and talking at Apt. 117.
“A male stated he was in an argument with his mother-in-law at Apt. 109,” Luster said. “I then asked if any assault had taken place, and the male stated, ‘The b---- stabbed me with a fork’. He then stated he was OK.”
Luster’s investigation allegedly revealed that the son-in-law, Sonnie Barker, had been in an argument with his mother-in-law, Lana Jean Castle, over food.
“He ended up allegedly throwing food on her, and she threw food on him,” CHPD Chief Mark Johnson said. “She had food from her knees level down where he threw food at her. They apparently got into a shoving match, and then she stabbed him with the fork.”
Castle, 40, 110 Pridemore St., Apt. 109, gave a statement that the argument with Barker was “over a plate of food.” She allegedly admitted that a verbal argument escalated into pushing and shoving.
“Mrs. Castle stated she used a fork and stabbed Mr. Barker,” Luster said. “She couldn’t remember very many details.”
Castle was released from the Hawkins County jail on Friday shortly after being arraigned. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 8 in Sessions Court.
