ROGERSVILLE — Fifteen of the 18 Hawkins County clerks/bartenders who were cited for underage beer sales as part of a Jan. 31-Feb. 1 countywide beer sting appeared in Sessions Court Wednesday.

All but one of those 15 pleaded guilty to the charge Wednesday.

Cherene Renee Davis, a clerk from Dot and Rick’s Market in Surgoinsville, had her charge dismissed.

Davis was training the clerk who made the actual underage beer sale during the sting, according to a Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office report.

Assistant Attorney General Alex Pearson told the Times-News that although Davis handed the bag of beer to the underage police agent during the sting, she had assumed the other clerk who made the sale had checked ID.

The other 14 people who pleaded guilty Wednesday were sentenced to 11 months and 29 days of probation, fined $300, and ordered to serve 96 hours of community service, although the final 16 hours will be suspended upon completion of their probation.

Ten of the 14 were granted a Title 40 diversion, which is a court disposition reserved for people with clean records. Assuming they complete the requirements of their probation their records will be expunged.
