Black emissions were seen coming from Eastman Chemical's Kingsport plant site Tuesday morning, but the incident's impact apparently was minimal, a company spokeswoman indicated.
Eastman experienced an electrical upset at one of its powerhouses, which caused a visible release of fly ash, said Eastman spokeswoman Kristin Sturgill.
"Fly ash is a non-hazardous material," she said in an e-mail. "The company is in the process of restarting the boilers and there have been no injuries or impact to the community or production."
