ROGERSVILLE — The Hawkins County-based prayer group Expecting God’s Help has a prayer walk scheduled at every school in the county on Sunday, Aug. 5.

Organizers are asking the public and area church members to visit the public school nearest to them on that day between 2 and 4 p.m. to pray for a safe and successful upcoming school year.

A prayer list will be provided for those coming to pray and will include suggested prayers.

Among the suggested prayers are for respect for family, teachers and peers; wisdom to see and clearly understand all things and all situations; courage to do the right things; and kindness to speak kind words to one another.

“We just need area churches and committed Christians to step forward and come to pray at all our Hawkins County schools on August 5th,” said event organizer Sue Thomas. “The well-being of our children, grandchildren, teachers, school administrators and our families is of the utmost importance, and we need to be in prayerful concern for them all.”

Any individuals, groups or churches that would like to volunteer to help at the event can contact one of two county organizers including Shirley Stapleton in the eastern half of the county.

Stapleton can be reached at 357-7546. She represents Surgoinsville Elementary, Surgoinsville Middle, McPheeter’s Bend Elementary, Carters Valley Elementary, Volunteer High School, Church Hill Elementary, Church Hill Intermediate, Church Hill Middle and Mount Carmel Elementary.

Tim and Rhonda Fields in Rogersville will be coordinating the western half of the county and represent Keplar Elementary, Mooresburg Elementary, Bulls Gap Middle, St. Clair Elementary, Hawkins Elementary, Joseph Rogers Primary, Rogersville Middle, Rogersville City, Cherokee High School and Clinch School. They can be reached at 754-3539.

“It is our hope and prayer that once we get these groups organized for prayers at each individual school that they will continue to meet regularly at the school and continue to cover it in prayer,” said Rhonda Fields.

Not all of the children in one family attend the same school, and not all the children in a church attend the same school.

In that light, organizers are asking that individual churches take it upon themselves to organize prayer groups for schools in their vicinity to ensure a good crowd at each school.
