BRISTOL, Tenn. — A Bristol man was charged with filing false reports after he allegedly called the 911 center and claimed that he had a hand grenade late Friday night.

According to a Bristol Police Department news release, patrol officers responded to the residence of Glenn Douglas Cock, 5011 Old Jonesboro Road, following his 10:56 p.m. call to 911. Police, who did not know if Cock was actually armed, attempted to get him to come outside, but Cock refused, making additional threats toward the officers.

The department’s SWAT and Negotiations teams were activated and attempted to reestablish contact with Cock via both his home phone and the department’s negotiations phone. These efforts took place over an extended period of time and were unanswered by Cock.

The release states that officers decided to enter the residence to insure Cock’s safety and the safety of the residents around him due to his threatened use of weapons, including his claim that he had a loaded AK47 and would use it.

Cock was taken into custody and charged with the class C felony of filing false reports.

His arraignment is scheduled for Monday morning in Bristol General Sessions Court.
