ROGERSVILLE — A Mount Carmel man was charged Saturday with promotion of the manufacture of meth for allegedly purchasing pseudoephedrine for the purpose of making meth for approximately two years.

As part of an ongoing investigation, the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office’s Narcotics Unit recently utilized the Tennessee Meth and Pharmaceutical Pseudoephedrine Purchase Database, as well as the National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEX) database.

Those sources revealed that Brandon Howe Ramey, 20, 644 Cherokee Drive, Mount Carmel, had allegedly been making “frequent and suspicious purchases of pseudoephedrine” — the main precursor and a necessary ingredient in the manufacturing process of meth. Narcotics officers made contact with Ramey on Saturday.

“It was determined that Mr. Ramey had been purchasing pseudoephedrine for approximately two years, which he purchased and provided for the sole purpose of manufacturing meth,” Sheriff Ronnie Lawson said.

As of Sunday, Ramey was being held in the Hawkins County jail on $75,000 bond pending arraignment Monday.
