Kingsport Police Department
Feb. 7
Loss prevention at Belk called police to the Kingsport Town Center, where a shoplifter allegedly attempted to walk out of the store with $643 in merchandise. Recovered from the woman were seven pieces of jewelry, three wallets and one purse. She was arrested for felony theft.
An Eastside Drive resident requested an officer due to someone knocking on her door and running away.
Someone was reportedly creating a disturbance at an Indian Trail Drive business and "making threats toward the manager."
Feb. 9
A vehicle had allegedly passed a residence on Highland Street several times, with one of the car's occupants reportedly "waving a pistol" at the home.
Police located a vehicle in the parking lot of a Fort Henry Drive motel, with the lights on and engine off. In the driver's seat a man was found with his "shirt over his head." When asked if he knew where he was located, he reportedly stated Johnson City, then admitted to drinking in the parking lot. He was arrested for public intoxication.
Feb. 10
At 4:50 p.m. a turkey flew into a Ford F250 westbound on I-26, breaking through the windshield. An accident report says the truck's occupants suffered minor injuries while the turkey "ended up in the rear floorboard."
At the intersection of East Center Street and North Eastman Road a vehicle was stopped for a burnt out headlight. The driver, whose license was found to be suspended out of Virginia, reportedly threw a burning cigarette out of his window during the stop. He was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license and violation of light law — and littering.
A hit and run was reported at Walgreens on West Stone Drive, where a vehicle allegedly fled the parking lot after striking a pedestrian. The victim refused medical care.
Police responded to apartments on Bloomingdale Pike to deal with a possibly armed man wanting to harm himself. They located the suspect's girlfriend at a neighboring apartment, where she relayed that he had choked and punched her several times. Officers were given a key to the unit where the suspect was located, but he reportedly held the deadbolt to prevent it from unlocking. As officers used a pry bar in the doorjamb in an attempt to enter, the man allegedly threatened he had a machine gun and was "ready to mow the (expletive) cops down." When the door was opened, the suspect was found hiding behind a door and was Tasered, while a K-9 latched onto his leg. He was taken into custody and arrested for aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
Hawkins County Sheriff's Office
Feb. 7
Police responded to a disturbance between two men who live at a residence on Cobb Road. During an argument over a "truck stuck in the mud" the younger man, 26, allegedly shut the vehicle's door on the other man's arm, while the older resident, 62, reportedly pulled a handgun. A primary aggressor could not be determined and no charges were placed, with the younger man agreeing to leave the residence.
An officer was dispatched to an alleged assault at a residence on Creek Road. Investigation revealed a man, 32, had been arguing with his girlfriend's female acquaintance over their "close relationship." When he called her a lesbian, according to statements made to police, his girlfriend's friend "smacked him in the mouth." Police referred the man to private prosecution, with him then retrieving his belongings and leaving the home.
A collision was reported on Western Heights Drive, where two vehicles backing out of adjacent driveways had struck each other. One driver was arrested after a check of his license revealed it was suspended.
Feb. 8
A woman being booked into the Hawkins County jail was strip searched, with an officer allegedly locating a partially smoked joint and rolling papers "under her left breast." She was additionally charged with introduction of contraband into a penal facility and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Feb. 10
A Rogersville woman contacted police about a possible identity theft, after discovering a new Facebook page was created with her name and picture. She said she talked to an ex-boyfriend about the incident, with him admitting to creating the page "to get back at her."
Sullivan County Sheriff's Office
Feb. 7
Rabbits were reported stolen from Knob Park Road.
Feb. 8
At approximately 2:40 p.m. a deputy located two vehicles stopped at the intersection of Barger Hollow and Church Road, blocking traffic. Thinking a wreck had occurred the officer asked one driver if everything was OK, with the man acting "evasive" in his answers. He eventually pointed at the other vehicle, saying he had stopped to talk with his friend, while a subsequent check of the men's records revealed they were both driving on a suspended license. Consent to search their vehicles was granted, with police allegedly locating pills and a large sum of cash in each man's possession. They were both arrested on drug and other charges.
Police responded to a report of gunfire on Brookfield Lane, locating individuals tending to a bonfire. They stated they had thrown a can of food into the blaze and it "popped" like a shot from a gun.
Dispatch was advised of a dispute between neighbors on Bancroft Chapel Road, where one resident said children keep marking on her car and tampering with a satellite dish.
Parents were reportedly arguing at the entrance of Miller Perry Elementary on Fordtown Road, with one of them leaving prior to police arrival.
Feb. 9
A resident of Brookfield Drive reported a passing truck had struck a deer, with the animal landing on top of a neighbor's vehicle. The deer then got off the vehicle and began "walking around."
A caller told dispatch the she could smell drugs at a market on John B. Dennis Highway, while a responding deputy only detected the odor of burning wood.
