CHURCH HILL — Hawkins County deputies allegedly seized three-quarters of a pound of marijuana and 10 firearms from a Church Hill residence during execution of a search warrant Friday evening.

Hawkins County Sheriff Ronnie Lawson said his Narcotics Unit had been involved in a ongoing investigation into alleged illegal drug activity involving Greg Everett Herron, 37, 132 Pine street, Church Hill.

By Friday, deputies had allegedly acquired enough evidence against Herron to get a search warrant signed by a judge.

“During the execution of the search warrant, Mr. Herron was located at the home,” Lawson said. “Narcotics officers explained and served the search warrant on Mr. Herron, at which time he was determined to be cooperative, and Mr. Herron voluntarily stated there was a considerable amount of marijuana inside the home. During the execution of the search warrant, narcotics officers recovered approximately three-quarters of a pound of compressed marijuana — meaning that the marijuana had been previously compressed into a ‘marijuana brick’ — which is a typical method of shipping marijuana.” Deputies also seized seven rifles and three handguns from the residence, as well as an unspecified quantity of cash.

Herron was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to delivery and maintaining a dwelling where narcotics are housed or sold.

He was released on $15,000 bond and will be arraigned this morning.
