A Tuesday morning traffic crash in Kingsport killed a Nashville woman, who police say would have sustained less severe injuries had she been wearing her seatbelt.
Hayley E. Byrd, 25, of Antioch Pike, Nashville, died of injuries.
Kingsport police report the incident occurred at approximately 5 a.m. on Bloomingdale Pike, at the intersection with Bloomington Drive. A 2005 Mazda 6 was westbound when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the eastbound traffic lane and exited the roadway.
Police say the Mazda then struck a power pole and concrete culvert before coming to rest. The female driver was transported to a local hospital and died of her injuries. She was reportedly not wearing her seatbelt.
It's currently not known what caused her to lose control of her car. An investigation is continuing.
