Jan. 25
Shortly after 1 a.m. police observed two vehicles speeding on East Stone Drive near Arbutus Avenue, with one clocked at 70 mph. Separate officers conducted stops on each vehicle, with both driver's cited for drag racing. One was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, after a pot pipe was observed in plain view inside his vehicle.
Hawkins County Sheriff's Office
Jan. 23
A Bulls Gap woman, 26, reported sexual harassment from her landlord, who was allegedly evicting her because she refused to have sex with him. The landlord, 62, told police that the renter was "causing problems" over the eviction, adding it was prompted by her violating the lease on several occasions. He claimed she was also mad because he had refused to let her brother stay at the property, due to past problems he had created on the premises. Police advised the pair to avoid contact with each other until an investigation was completed.
Jan. 27
A Mount Carmel resident told police she had received several phone calls claiming she'd won a 2012 Mercedes Benz and large sum of money. The woman, 71, reportedly complied with requests to mail $1,400 so her winnings would be released, sending off money grams to New York and Florida. After doing so she became worried she'd been victimized by a scam, while calls to the phone numbers that had initially contacted her were answered by a machine in Kingston, Jamacia.
A Rogersville man contacted police after attempting to get some of his belonging's from his estranged wife's home. While there her father allegedly used a Maglite to break two windows from his truck.
Sullivan County Sheriff's Office
Jan. 24
Dispatch was advised of parents arguing with the referee of an elementary school basketball game at Sullivan Central. An officer responded and advised everything was OK.
Jan. 26
Juveniles along the side of Buffalo Road were allegedly, "cussing cars when they pass by." Police responded but located no one.
Wise County Sheriff's Office
Jan. 25
A woman advised a man had driven to an Appalachia store in his electric wheelchair, but it's now stuck in the ice and he's unable to return home.
Jan. 26
A caller told dispatch that a duck "won't move" from the middle of a road in Wise. Police in the area found the duck in a driveway, advising the caller that there's not much they can do about it, while attempts to run it away proved unsuccessful.
