GATE CITY — A Duffield man was arrested by Gate City police Wednesday following an alleged domestic dispute that took place in the parking lot of the Scott County Department of Motor Vehicles.
Officers with the Gate City Police Department and Scott County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the incident around noon Wednesday after receiving a reports that a man was using a knife to cut a van’s tires in a parking lot shared by the DMV and Gate City Post Office.
Gate City police eventually arrested Erick Bowen, 501 Mustang Lane, Duffield, on a misdemeanor assault charge for allegedly using a knife to threaten the victim, who turned out to be his estranged wife.
According to police reports, the couple and two other individuals were in the parking lot when an argument began for undisclosed reasons. At one point during the argument, authorities said Erick Bowen allegedly used a large pocketknife to cut the tires of the couple’s van in an effort to keep his wife from leaving with it.
After arriving on the scene and speaking with the alleged victim, authorities located Erick Bowen and took him into custody without incident.
Police also arrested Erick’s Bowen’s brother — Ernest Bowen, 2009 Cliff Mountain Way, Duffield — on a single count of obstruction of justice.
Police said they were forced to physically subdued Ernest Bowen after he allegedly ignored commands to stop while walking to his vehicle.
Both men were released from custody Wednesday afternoon on their own recognizance and are awaiting hearings in Scott County General District Court.
