Kingsport school bus with kids on board stuck off Fairview Avenue

KINGSPORT — A school bus with Kingsport City Schools students aboard got stuck shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday on Fairview Avenue, just past Midfield Market, and remained stuck about 4:30 p.m.

“I know that our transportation department is working on that situation at the moment,” school system spokesman Andy True said in an e-mail. “Ken Barnes, our director of transportation, is in contact with the driver and coordinating the effort.”

A neighbor living along the route said the bus had been stuck since about 3 p.m. and that another neighbor checked and said students were still aboard the bus. The Kingsport City Schools dismissed early for the inclement weather.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., a city policeman arrived at the scene and reported eight children were still on the bus.

The market is at 1600 Fairview Ave.

Another incident rported in that part of town involved a tractor-trailer jackknifed on Interstate 26 on the overpass across Stone Drive.
