KINGSPORT - City Board of Education member Cheryl Harvey has resigned from the BOE so her husband, Kim Harvey, could be appointed principal of the city's Sevier Middle School without any appearance of a conflict of interest, school system spokesman Andy True said.

True said Cheryl Harvey resigned effective Monday and her husband, who is leaving Sullivan County's system where he was principal of Rock Springs Elementary, was appointed Sevier principal, replacing the retired Cookie Greer. His wife's position on the school board will be temporarily filled by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, with the position up for election in the May 2013 city elections.

In other appointments announced Tuesday, Kennedy Elementary Principal Stacy Edwards was moved to Johnson Elementary; Shanna Henlsey was moved from an assistant to the principal at Lincoln Elementary to principal at Kennedy; and Stephanie Potter was moved from assistant to the principal at Robinson to principal of Adams Elementary.

Two elementary principalships were left vacant with appointments to the central office announced recently. Five additional assistants to the principals are to be appointed before the start of the new school year in early August, True said.
