ROGERSVILLE — In separate unrelated incidents overnight Monday, Hawkins County Sheriff’s officers arrested two DUI suspects who were also accused of being intoxicated in possession of a firearm.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m. Monday, HCSO Deputy Michael Lipe reportedly observed a blue Ford pickup stopped at the intersection of Big Hill Road and Mooresburg Springs Road on the far western end of the county.
Lipe stated in his report that as he approached the pickup in his patrol car the truck rolled off to the right side of the road into a ditch.
The driver was identified as Danny Ray Collins, 63, Bybee, Te n n .
Lipe stated that Collins was unsteady on his feet and unable to stand without assistance, and due to his high level of intoxication it was unsafe for him to perform field sobriety tests.
A single-shot 12-gauge shotgun was allegedly found in plain view on the front seat of the truck, and Collins allegedly had ammunition in his pants pocket.
Collins was charged with DUI, driving on a suspended license and possession of a firearm by an intoxicated person.
In an unrelated incident that occurred around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, HCSO Deputy Ethan Mays was dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on Old Route 70-S near Webster Valley.
Upon his arrival, Mays met Jared David Webster, 18, 686 Caney Creek Road, Rogersville, who allegedly stated he was looking at his phone when the 2001 Dodge Dakota he was driving veered into a ditch.
Webster allegedly admitted to drinking several beers but said he’d stopped hours earlier. Mays stated in his report, however, that Webster performed poorly on field sobriety tests.
Two rifles were located on the rear seat of the pickup in plain view. Webster was charged with DUI, failure to exercise due care and possession of a gun by an intoxicated person.
Both men were scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
